Even though we're a bit into the New Year, a group of beauty bloggers and I are rounding up our favorite beauty products of 2008. I tried and reviewed so many products, that narrowing down a list was really hard. These were the products that I considered standouts:
Bobbi Brown Mauve Palette and Gel Eyeliner in Black Mauve Shimmer Ink: I lusted over the Fall Mauve palette the minute I saw it and similar to Stonewashed Nudes, this has been a go-to palette for me. And the Black Mauve Shimmer Ink Gel Eyeliner is perfection.
Chanel Smoky Eye Quad: This year, I didn't meet a Chanel Eyeshadow Quad that I didn't love and have to own. But the Smoky Eye Quad is my Holy Grail. Done in gorgeous gray to black shimmers, I still marvel over its' beauty every time I open it up.
Estee Lauder Private Collection Amber Ylang Ylang Perfume: The fact that I fell for this fragrance so hard and was totally smitten with it from the first time I spritzed it was a complete shock to me. Amber Ylang Ylang is the second fragrance in Aerin Lauder's Private Collection series. It's warm, vanilla, sexy, ambery....just a wow! And the bottle is exquisite.
Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes Mascara: 2008 was the Year of the Mascara, with vibrating brushes, special combs and new formulas. Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes has a genius applicator that allows you to get over and under every lash for truly phenomenal lashes. Revolutionary.
Kate Somerville Exfoliate: One of my favorite skincare products, Exfolikate combines a physical and chemical exfoliant to get one great scrub that leaves your face glowing in only a matter of minutes. I leave this in my shower and apply a few times a week. No matter how many exfoliators I've tried, this is still my #1.
3 LAB "h" Serum": I love high-tech skincare and 3LAB "h" serum is one of the most innovative products I've tried. "h" serum contains a synthetic growth hormone to help reverse the signs of aging by supplementing the growth hormones naturally produced in the body. Not only that, it feels luxurious. Exceptional!
Skinceuticals C E Ferulic and Hydrating B5 Gel: The "Dynamic Duo", I think of these Skinceuticals serums as the foundation of my skincare routine. The C E Ferulic is a powerful antioxidant treatment, while the B5 Gel nourishes and hydrates. This line, which also includes the newer Phloretin CF, is a line I trust and believe in.

Skinceuticals Phloretin CF is a broad-spectrum antioxidant treatment serum that is an important preventive step in your anti-aging skincare regimen. When Skinceuticals Phloretin CF initially came out, there was alot of confusion about how this product differed from Skinceuticals C E Ferulic.
Both Phloretin CF and C E Ferulic provide powerful photoprotection, anti-aging benefits such as reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, firming and increased radiance.
Phloretin CF is best for oily, problematic, as well as normal skin types. In my use of Phloretin CF, the first thing I noticed is that it seemed to have a lighter, less oily/sticky feel to it. Phloretin CF is also best if you have hyperpigmentation concerns, need accelerated cell renewal, need help with skin sagging/tightening and retexturizing skin. Phloretin is a very powerful antioxidant, not only fighting free radicals, but research suggest, protecting DNA from mutations. That means possibly preventing the start of some skin cancers.
There are other differences, however, including the actual formulations of the products. While both products contain ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), the concentration is higher in C E Ferulic. Since high concentrations of ascorbic acid can be irritating to skin, you can understand why they decreased the concentration in Phloretin CF. There is also no Vitamin E in Phloretin CF. I definitely think that an antioxidant serum like Skinceuticals Serums--Phloretin CF or C E Ferulic should be a part of everybody's skincare regimen. I'm using both products; in the winter when my skin tends to be more dry, I use Skinceuticals C E Ferulic. In the summer, when it's more combination, the Phloretin CF feels more comfortable.

Vitamin B5 is known to help with tissue repair and hydration. Hydrating B5 gel contains hyaluronic acid, which acts as natural humectant and helps to bind moisture to the skin. After the Hydrating B5 Gel is absorbed, I then apply a moisturizer and sunscreen. Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Gel retails for $ 58. It should be noted that these are products that I believe in and do use daily (except when testing out a new product) as part of my anti-aging skin care routine. I read the clinicals and research the science behind skin care products that I test and in the case of the Skinceuticals C E Ferulic, there is much to be impressed with. I would highly recommend considering the addition of Skinceuticals C E Ferulic and Hydrating B5 Gel combination into your daily (morning) skincare regimen.
