Today is La Mer 2010 World Oceans Day!

World Oceans Day takes place annually on June 8th and is a day to recognize the sea’s importance as a vital ecosystem and to encourage action to preserve its delicate habitats and wildlife. With over 300,000 members in 150 countries, Oceana’s science-based policies have greatly reduced over-fishing and protected threatened marine habitats.   

To honor World Ocean Day and share the experience of Oceana’s extraordinary work, La Mer sponsored a deep-sea dive in Belize with Oceana Spokeswoman January Jones.  A passionate sea advocate and distinguished actress, January has been working with Oceana to raise awareness and help educate the public about ocean issues and ways to get involved. 

As we watch events in unfold with the oil spill in the Gulf, this video takes on even more significance...take a look.  Then check out Ocean's website and find a way to become involved.

Haiti Earthquake Relief...Ways You Can Help

 

Talking about beauty seems pretty insignificant when you see the heartbreaking pictures on TV of the devastation in Haiti.  Just as wrenching is to read Twitter; to hear from those who have family or friends in Haiti.  Please take a moment today to make a donation.

In times of crisis, no country is more willing to help than the US.  Americans are the most generous and giving in the world.  Disasters know no boundaries, so as we go about our weekends, let's do what we can to help the victims of this earthquake.  Instead of the latte that I usually buy myself on weekend mornings, it makes me feel better to know that I can make a donation to this cause and do some real good.

Q & A with Evelyn Lauder, Founder, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Evelyn Lauder, Senior Corporate Vice President of The Estee Lauder Companies and Founder and Chairman, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, understands first hand the importance of the month of October and a simple pink ribbon.  She co-created the Pink Ribbon with SELF Magazine in 1992 as a symbol of breast health and launched The Estee Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign.  An incredible legacy.  Evelyn Lauder recently answered questions regarding the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign:

What are some of your plans for the 2009 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign?

EL:  Our 2009 theme is:  World Pink. World Without Breast Cancer. Wear a Pink Ribbon. Make a Difference.  Because we believe that reaching out to every possible person is pivotal now more than ever, we can not do this alone.  If we combine our voices, more lives can be saved and a cure can be found in the near future.  This October, over 70 countries will participate in The Estee Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. 

In addition, 15 of the Estee Lauder Companies' brands will offer pink beauty products for sale in support of their contribution to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).  These brands, along with other Estee Lauder Companie's brands, will also display information at their counters, and distribute Pink Ribbons and informational materials regarding breast health.  By the end of 2009, over 85 million Pink Ribbons will have been distributed and The Estee Lauder Companes' will have raised more than $40 million for BCRF.

Lancome La Collection Lollipop

Lancôme has introduced La Collection Lollipop, three limited-edition gloss and nail polish sets created to help raise funds and awareness for the Lollipop Theater Network. This nonprofit organization brings current-run movies to children and teenagers hospitalized due to chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

Lancôme ambassador Anne Hathaway brought the organization to Lancôme’s attention and asked if there was anything the brand could do to help support the charity. Inspired by Lollipop’s mission and Anne’s passion, Lancôme created three colorful collections that call to mind the much-loved candy. The Lollipop team worked with children in the Lollipop program to create the whimsical illustrations that decorate each gift set. 

Once again I am struck by the good that can come about through the purchase of cosmetics that we use every day.  This is such a great cause!

Each set in The Lollipop Collection contains a Color Fever Gloss and a Le Vernis nail polish.  There are three shades:  Mademoiselle Grape, Bon Bon Strawberry and Ma Cherie Cherry.  The sets retails at $35 and $5 from each set will be donated to Lollipop.
