A full spectrum palette of 50 new crème nail colours includes sheer, semi-sheer and opaque neutrals, pinks, darks and brights from the whitest white (Brilliant White) to the blackest black (Blackjack). CND Summer Nail Color 2009 Trend Report

Summer calls for nail colors in bright punchy nail colors like CND's Sneaky, Hot Pop Blue and Wildfire.  Amp up this season's bright floral prints and metallic gladiator sandals with these "notice me" shades.

Best of NY Fashion Week: Catherine Malandrino

Fashion Week is of course, all about the gorgeous clothes and upcoming trends for the season.  But ask any beauty addict...we want to know about the makeup!  One key trend that was seen on many of the runways was the continuation of the use of grey and black eyeshadows. This was a key trend that I saw at Spring Fashion Week, which was held in New York last September.

The grey eye trend was executed perfectly at the Catherine Malandrino show, by Tom Pecheaux for MAC.  

Here's the face chart:

The eyeshadow used was Vex and Scene, which was blended over the eyelids, up past the crease and along the lower lashline to create a gray wash on the lids.  Print eyeshadow was then applied gently over the grey shadow to give a bluish tint.  Eyes were lined with Blacktrack Fluidline and extended past the outer corner of the eye.  Another thin black line created by following the arch of the brow bone above the crease of the lid.  This was repeated on the lower lashline.

Studio Sculpt Foundation SPF 15 was used on the face to give a natural finish. Invisible set powder was brushed over the face to set makeup.

Lip Erase in Dim was pressed onto lips to create a skin tone mouth. 

Nails were done by CND and to offset the glamourous hair and makeup, were kept neutral.

The hair:  To achieve a Surrealist inspired look, Malandrino, Odile Gilbert for Sebastian Professional and master colorist Eva Scrivo and the Wella Professionals Team, collaborated for an end result both unexpected and curious—alluding to the artists of this era.  A sleek, sophisticated chignon pushes the creative envelope when crafting multiple shapes, while colored extensions and netting add dimension and life to make this updo anything but typical. “The colored extensions themselves are a beautiful intermingling of light to dark tones, which we will customize for a unique look on each model,” says Odile. "It's modern art without being pretentious.”

What was the #1 designer favorite color and nail look at the spring 09 fashion shows? Opaque flesh tone to elongate hands and match clean faces.  CND's Cocoa – seen at Giambattista Valli, Nina Ricci, Araks, Max Azria, Halston, Jason Wu, Ashley Isham, Karen Walker, Felder Felder, Graeme Black, Thakoon, Peter Som... to list a few.  

The top nail trends for the spring and summer are:

• Whitewashes: Creamy and iridescent white shades lighten things up.
• Shades of Gold: Whether 24-karat or honey bronze, bling abounds.
• Gothic Tones: A trace of red? A hint of blue? No matter, as long as it’s almost black.
• Solid Foundation: Opaque nudes — not just for the face anymore.
• Kind of Blue: From navy to deep sky, there seems no limit.
• Reds Return: From bright Wildfire to dark Decadence

I love the foundation tones like Cocoa (pictured above; courtesy of CND).  It's an updated look-- so modern and chic.  I definitely plan to pick up several of the opaque nude colors for Spring.
