Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) has been recently approved by the
FDA for use in the United States for the temporary improvement in the
appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines – the vertical lines
between the eyebrows – in adult men and women 65 or younger. Dysport was previously known by the name Reloxin.
There are differences between new Dysport and market leader Botox and this article is not intended to be a substitute for asking your physician which cosmetic injectible is right for you.
One distinction is in the time it takes for the two products to work. Dr. David Banks, dermatologist and clinical investigator for Dysport, notes that Dysport seems to take effect more quickly--within two to three days. It can take up to a week for Botox to take effect. So if you have an event where you want to see effects sooner, Dysport may be a better choice. In
clinical trials, the effects of Dysport also have been shown to last
longer--four months for Dysport versus three months for Botox, although
individual results may vary.

Botox® results generally last about 4 months, but individual results may vary.
